031026 - New Windsor vs Minisink Valley
- Division II Eagles Finish 5-3.
- The Division II New Windsor Eagles Players, Cheerleaders, Parents, and Fans traveled to Minisink Valley on Sunday to take on the Warriors at 11 AM. After a first series that ended with a New Windsor punt, the Warriors scored on their first offensive play taking an early 6-0 lead. The Eagles backfield alternated running backs with Kevin McDonnell, Tom Schlett, and Anthony Shiflett getting most of the work. Offensive miscues including penalties and a fumble prevented the Eagles offense from scoring in the first half, but the defense with strong run stops from Bryan Leroy, Steve Bohr, and John Denton, and excellent pass coverage by Tom Starkey and Nick Armstrong forced the Warriors to turn the ball over on downs twice.
- In the second quarter, both teams exchanged possessions with field position leaning towards the Minisink side. The defense held strong with big hits from John Spanakos and Austin Haarman, but eventually a 3-play drive inside Eagles territory led to a touchdown and successful 2-point kick for a 14-0 halftime lead.
- The Eagles, after making halftime adjustments, came up big on defense with a fumble recovery by William Buk on the Warriors first set. Determined to capitalize on the mistake, the Eagles scored on a drive that included tight end Ryan Sussman's second big catch of the day for 20+ yards and an Anthony Zanetich 35-yard touchdown run. With good protection from Brett Pender, and Mike Bloise up front, Byron Thomas kicked the 2-point conversion to bring New Windsor within 6 at 14-8.The defense held Minisink Valley scoreless in the third with good line play up front and strong tackles from Todd Surrett and Paul Harden.
- The Eagles never gave up and showed a lot of heart in what would be their final quarter of the season. Unable to establish a sustained ground game, they resorted to pass plays and a screen, which were unsuccessful against a strong Warrior defense. Even at 20-8 their "never say die" attitude showed on the field as it did all year. The game ended with a final score of 28-8 and a winning record of 5-3! The Eagles players and cheerleaders kept their heads up, and in an awesome display of sportsmanship genuinely congratulated the Minisink Valley Warriors after the game.
031019 - New Windsor vs Washingtonville Dozers
- New Windsor Eagles Division II Fall to Washingtonville Dozers.
- On a damp and chilly day, the Division II New Windsor Eagles and Cheerleaders braved the elements for a 1 o'clock game against the Washingtonville Dozers at Lasser Park.
- On their opening drive, the Eagles marched down the field on 8 plays behind the blocking of William Buk, Zack Surrett, Sean Parrington, Mike Malgieri, and Robert Riley, opening holes in the middle for short yardage runs by fullback Kevin McDonnell, and superb pass blocking on a 22 yard completion from Anthony Zanetich to tight end Ryan Sussman. A 20-yard run to the outside, behind Anthony Shiflett, by Byron Thomas and a 2-point kick put the Eagles on top 8-0. Washingtonville answered on their first possession with a 5 play scoring drive, featuring a 40 yard run, and an 8-yard run for a touchdown and successful 2-point kick for an 8-8 tie after the 1st quarter.
- In the second quarter, the Eagles used ball control and clock management to keep the Dozers offense off the field, much as they did in the first, but an interception, a fumble, and a blocking penalty on an Eagles punt turned the ball over each time. The defense, in their own territory after the punt, held Washingtonville with big hits coming from safety Nick Armstrong and linebacker John Spanakos. In their third defensive set of the quarter Austin Haarman sacked the quarterback on a third and long to force a punt. Steve Bohr and Tom Schlett controlled the outside and stopped potential big gainers to keep the Dozers from scoring again in the first half.
- The third quarter started with a defensive stand fueled by good penetration by the interior line of Robert Malcolm, John Denton, and Todd Surrett and good tackling by ends Ryan Sussman and Bryan Leroy. The offense could not capitalize on their next drive and a blocked punt gave Washingtonville the ball with good field position. A 1-yard run and 2-point kick gave the Dozers their first lead 16-8. The Eagles quickly answered on their next possession and capped the drive with a 30-yard run and successful kick by Byron Thomas. Throughout game the Eagles kept fresh legs on the field substituting on the offensive line with tight ends Chris Marino and Collin Resch, and the defense with Aaron Moore, Brett Pender, Mike Bloise, and Raja Myers. Andrew Lightbody also came up big on defense with great quarterback pressure resulting in an incomplete pass in a key situation.
- In the fourth, Washingtonville scored on a 65-yard run and 2-point kick putting them ahead 24-16, and again on a punt return to take a 32-16 lead. After a series of injuries to New Windsor starters resulting from a non-called late hit, a clip, and an illegal tackle; backup quarterback Tom Starkey and running back Tom Schlett stepped up in an attempt to bring the Eagles back, but with time running out and a tough Dozer defense on the field the game ended with the final score 32-16, Bringing the Eagles record to 5-2.
- The Eagles players, cheerleaders, staff, and parents travel to Minisink Valley this Sunday for the final regular-season game of the year at Warrior Field at 11 o'clock.
031012 - New Windsor vs Highland Falls
- New Windsor Eagles Division 2 Win 32-18 Over Highland Falls.
- The Division 2 Eagles and Cheerleaders traveled to Highland Falls for a one o'clock game at James O'Neil High School on Sunday. The cheerleaders entertained all fans for a full four quarters and lifted their team to a 32-18 victory!
- The defense scored first with a safety made possible by a big push from the new and improved front five of Ryan Sussman, Todd Surrett, Robert Malcolm, John Denton and Bryan Leroy. After two unsuccessful drives, the Eagles offence took the ball down the field. On the second play of the drive, Anthony Zanetich connected with Ryan Sussman for a 15-yard pass, and three plays later Kevin McDonnell took it in for his first touchdown of the season. Byron Thomas kicked the 2 point conversion and a 10-0 first quarter score.
- Highland Falls scored first in the second quarter on a 49-yard pass play. On their first possession of the second quarter the Eagles' offensive line of Sean Parrington, Zack Surrett, Mike Malgieri, Robert Riley, and William Buk dominated, opening holes for the running backs on a nine-play drive. The key play was a 25-yard reception by Ryan Sussman. The drive stalled but a fourth down an interception left Highland falls deep in their own territory. Good plays by the outside linebackers Tom Schlett and Steven Bohr kept the Falcons on their side of the field, turning the ball over on downs. Byron Thomas scored before the half on a 22-yard touchdown run and 2-point conversion for an 18-6 halftime lead.
- Highland Falls scored first in the second half on a 65-yard pass play for a touchdown. New Windsor answered with a 68-yard touchdown run and successful 2-point kick by Byron Thomas. For most of the second half the Eagles' defense held with outstanding pass coverage by safeties Cole Crawford and Brett Pender.
- In the fourth, New Windsor used the ground game to run the clock with contributions coming from Anthony Shiflett, Collin Resch, and Aaron Moore with blocking on the right side from Chris Marino. Mike Bloise, Paul Harden, and Andrew Lightbody on the extra point team helped to make the Eagles 2 for 3 on point after kicks today. On their final offensive set that started on their own 35, backup quarterback Tom Starkey connected with Nick Armstrong for a 20 yard pass for a first down on a 3rd and 20 to retain possession and run out the clock. Each team scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter and the final score was 32-18.
- Next week the Eagles take their 5-1 record to Washingtonville for a one o'clock game against the Dozers.
031005 - New Windsor vs Warwick White
- Division 2 Eagles lose to Warwick White, 40-14.
- The Division 2 New Windsor Eagles suffered their first loss of the season against a very good and well-prepared Warwick White team on Sunday at The Mt. Airy Sports Complex. In their last regular season home game, the Eagles were unable to control the Warwick running game resulting in a 40-14 final score.
- Warwick scored on a 2 yard run up the middle capping a 65 yard drive on their first possession, but New Windsor answered quickly with a 50 yard pass completion to Ryan Sussman. The big pass play led to an Anthony Zanetich 5 yard touchdown run 3 plays later. Both teams missed their first point after touchdown attempts resulting in an early 6-6 tie. Warwick scored again in the first quarter on a 56 yard run on their second series.
- Warwick scored first again in the second quarter on their third successful drive in a row with a 10 yard run. Down 20-6, ByronThomas broke one for 55 yards, with good blocks coming up front from Robert Riley, William Buk, and Bryan Leroy on the play. Byron Thomas also kicked the two point conversion behind good protection from conversion specialists Brett Pender, Paul Harden, and Mike Bloise. The following series Warwick answered with an 80 yard touchdown run and a halftime score of 27-14.
- New Windsor had the ball first in the third quarter and started a good drive, successfully running up the middle behind the blocking of Sean Parrington, Mike Malgieri, and Zack Surrett until a fumble by Kevin McDonnell gave the ball back to Warwick who capitalized a few plays later with a 38 run and a 34-14 lead. On their next drive New Windsor moved down the field this time on the outside behind the blocking of reserve tight end Chris Marino, and running back anthony Shiflet. Eventually the drive stalled and the Eagles turned it over on downs.
- Warwick's final touchdown came in the fourth quarter on yet another big running play of 58 yards, with the final score 40-14. The Eagles will be on the road for their last three games starting with Highlnd Falls next Sunday at 1:00.
030928 - New Windsor vs Valley Central
- The Division 2 New Windsor Eagles posted their second shutout in a row against Valley Central Sunday. Both the offense and defense came up big all day long with the final score 31-0.
- Byron Thomas scored on the first play of the game with a 65 yard run for the Eagles first touchdown. On Valley Central's first possession, defensive lineman John Denton blocked a Valley Central punt giving the Eagles great field position. Two runs of 10 and 4 yards up the middle to fullback Kevin McDonnell, behind the blocking of Sean Parrington, Robert Riley, and Mike Malgieri set up a touchdown run of 5 yards by Byron Thomas, to the outside behind Anthony Shiflet for an early 12-0 Eagles lead.
- On a series that included two penalties, and two plays for negative yardage Byron Thomas again came up big on 3rd and 30 with an 88-yard run for his third touchdown. The point after was converted by a run up the middle by Kevin McDonnell. With three minutes to play in the half defensive lineman Raja Myers recovered a fumble ending Valley Central's hopes of scoring in the first half.
- The defense picked up where they left off in the second half with a Robert Malcolm fumble recovery on Valley Central's first series. The third quarter was scoreless and the defense played tough, shutting down the offense with key tackles coming from safety Brett Pender, and the outside running game shut down by Nick Armstrong and Tom Schlett on the corners, and outside linebackers Tom Starkey and Paul Harden. Linebackers John Spanakos and Kevin McDonnell each had an interception on VC's only two pass attempts and defensive tackle Austin Harmon recovered a fumble in the fourth quarter.
- Anthony Zanetich threw a 35-yard touchdown to tight end Ryan Sussman for the first score of the fourth quarter. Steven Bohr, Thomas Schlett, and fullback Collin Resch did most of the running in the second half. All had impressive runs including a 45-yard touchdown run by Thomas Schlett, breaking tackles all the way, for the Eagles final score.
030921 - New Windsor vs Newburgh
- Division 2 shutout Newburgh at home this week 19-0. A strong New Windsor defence held the Giants scoreless with key plays in both halves. In the first quarter, safety Cole Crawford came up with an interception and 10 yard return to stop one drive,then a forced fumble and recovery on a punt by William Buk gave the ball back to the Eagles after a four and out.
- In the thirdquarter Nick Armstrong had two key tackles, and Ryan Sussman got through to tackle the punter on a punt attempt, giving the Eagles great field position. The front four held their own in the middle, but strong plays by both cornerbacks, Thomas Schlett and Thomas Starkey on the outside helped to preserve the shutout.
- The Eagles scored their first touchdown by way of a 45 yard punt retrun by Byron Thomas, his second of the season. The second touchdown was set up by a 15 yard catch and run by tight end Andrew Lightbody with 2:39 left in the first half. A couple of plays later Byron Thomas found his way to the end zone again on a 7 yard run.
- Backup running backs Collin Resch, Thomas Schlett, and Aaron Moore did most of the work in the fourth quarter leading to an Anthony Zanetich 27 yard touchdown on a broken play finishing off the Giants 19-0 .
030914 - New Windsor vs Wallkill FP
- The New Windsor Eagles Division 2 team beat Wallkill FP 12-6. Both the Eagles touchdowns were scored in the first half.
- Byron Thomas scored on a 65 yard run in the first quarter, and Anthony Zanetich scored in the second on a 65 yard Quarterback keeper.
- The defense was anchored by the strong line play of left tackle John Denton, making tackles on the inside and getting pressure on the quarterback.
- Todd Surrett came up with a key fumble recovery in the second half .
030906 - New Windsor vs Warwick Gold
- The New Windsor Eagles Division 2 team won on opening day in a double overtime 37-31 game against Warwick Gold.
- It was a see-saw battle throughout regulation with each team scoring 4 touchdowns. Byron Thomas had 3 touchdowns on 2 runs of 60 and 70 yards, and a 45 yard punt return. Anthony Zanetich had the final touchdown in the first four quarters with a 1 yard run. John Spanakos made a game-saving tackle in the fourth quarter sending the game into overtime.
- In overtime Warwick Gold had the ball first, scored and made a 1 point conversion. On the Eagles first possesion they also scored on a run by Anthony Zanetich and successful conversion. The defense held on Warwicks next possesion, leading to the game-winning 2 yard run by Byron Thomas.
- The defense was led by middle linebacker Kevin McDonnell with numerous tackles including a stop on the one foot line in overtime.
